The Wille McCreery-trained Godolphin-owned three-year-old Devonshire earned a well-deserved Stakes victory in the Listed Listowel Stakes at the County Kerry track yesterday. Third in the Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas and runner-up in two Gr.3 trials, this was her first win since her maiden victory at the Curragh in October last year. The daughter of Fast Company was settled in second by Billy Lee as Queen Of Alba set the pace. Driven around the home turn, she led in the final furlong, going clear and galloping on powerfully for an impressive four and a half length victory. The Tommy Stack trained Alive Alive Oh chased her home and held on by a neck for second from a keeping on Queen Of Alba. Bred by Patrick Burns of Newlands House Stud, she was sold as a yearling for €100,000 to John Ferguson and her full brother is entered as lot 317 at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale. She is a half sister to the Listed Rosebery Stakes winner Hurryupharriet (Camacho), out of the six-time winner Nova Tor (Trans Island). The family also includes the Listed Land O’Burns Stakes winner Hay Chewed (Camacho) and the Gr.3 Laurel Futurity scorer River Traffic (Irish River), who was also placed in the Gr.1 Hollywood Derby and the Gr.1 Hollywood Turf Handicap before retiring to stud.
