Mutarakez books ticket to Royal Ascot with Betfred Silver Bowl success at Haydock Park
24 May 2015
Royal Ascot is next for the exciting Mutarakez (Fast Company ex Nightswimmer) after he landed the Betfred Mobile Silver Bowl impressively under jockey Paul Hanagan at Haydock.
Sent off the well-backed 2-1 favourite in what looked a decent field of three-year-olds, he justified the odds.
Hanagan was in no hurry. He dropped him in the pack but when asked the Fast Company colt came with a fine late run to win by three-quarters-of-a-length from Goring (20-1) with Carry On Deryck (25-1) a neck back in third.
Mutakarez is a smart prospect and looks a Group performer in the making.
Hanagan, who was landing a winner for the second successive day back at his home track, was impressed. “He has done it well because he was drawn badly. I had to drop in him and ride him with a bit of confidence. Once he got out he flew. But he is still green and was pricking his ears. He is a very nice horse and the way he did that today you would hope he would head to Royal Ascot next.”
Meehan confirmed the Britannia Stakes at the Royal meeting is his most likely target, but it won’t be long before he is pitched into Pattern company.
Meehan said: “I’m very pleased, he’s a lovely horse. He had to overcome a bad draw and looking at that you’d say he was a stakes horse. The Britannia is the obvious target, but the weights are out late for that so we’ll see what the handicapper does. Paul said he’d get further so the other option would be the 10-furlong Group Three (Tercentenary Stakes). He’s won very well in the end and we’ll have a talk and see what we think is best.” Congratulations to breeders John Heffernan and Grainne Dooley!
