Exciting homebred Aurora Butterfly breaks her maiden for us at Clonmel!
05 May 2017
Aurora Butterfly (Born To Sea ex Diamonaka) won in style under Billy Lee in the 1m1 1/2F Maiden at Clonmel. She had shown up well to take second in a competitive Leopardstown maiden on her debut last month and followed that with a credible fifth in the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan – only beaten two short heads. On this occasion she got the better of the front-running Detailed over the course of the last furlong.Racing Post commented, “she never looked like getting beaten and travelled like the best filly in the race from start to finish. She won in an authoritative fashion. This wasn’t much of a test for her but it will be a case of job done in terms of winning a maiden and now connections can look forward to trying to gain some black type.”
She is a half-sister to Gr.3 Prix de la Rochette scorer and sire Diamond Green, who also took second in the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Gr.1 St. James’s Palace Stakes. They are out of Gr.2 Prix de Malleret runner up Diamonaka, who also bred the Gr.3 Prix de Cleopatre winner Diamonixa, the Listed-placed Diyaraka and the Gr.2 Prix de Malleret heroine and Gr.1 Prix Vermeille second Diamalina. Rathasker also retained a Clodovil half sister to Aurora Butterfly, Syamantaka, she has an Invincible Spirit yearling colt which will be offered at the 2017 yearling sales and she has a filly foal by Sea The Stars at foot. Big thank you to trainer Willie McCreery and to jockey Billy Lee.
