LIVING IN THE PAST WINS GR.2 LOWTHER STAKES
22 Aug 2019
Clipper Logistic’s Living In The Past (Bungle Inthejungle) finished a close third tackling six furlongs in Ascot’s July 27 Gr.3 Princess Margaret Stakes and made the leap forward to secure Thursday’s Gr.2 Lowther Stakes over the same trip at York. The bay, who won over five at Beverley on July the 5th, was away sharply from the outside gate and seized early command. Unflustered on the front end until stoked up with 1 ½ furlongs remaining, the 12-1 chance poached a decisive advantage entering the final eighth and was driven out to hold the late rush of Gr.3 Molecomb Stakes victress Liberty Beach by ¾ of a length for a personal best. “I was underbidder on her at the sales and it’s always great when a plan comes off,” joked Karl Burke after claiming a first success in the contest. “Frankie rode her at Ascot and said the soft ground beat her there so I was confident of turning the tables on (eventual fourth) Under The Stars. Whether we were good enough to beat John Quinn’s Liberty Beach was the question, but we stayed on very well.” Looking to the future, he added, “she’s a lovely filly, but still raw and very much on the leg so she’ll only strengthen over the winter. She’s an exciting filly for next year and might have one more run this year. If she does, the obvious place is the Gr.1 Cheveley Park Stakes. She’s high class and I could see her getting another furlong next year, but whether she gets a mile only time will tell.” Living In The Past, full sister to a yearling filly, is the second surviving foal and one of two winners produced by a half sister to the Gr.3 Cornwallis Stakes runner-up Outer Space and to the dam of Listed Commited Stakes victor The Broghie Man and Listed Prix Herod third Gloves Lynch. Her second dam Venoge is an unraced half sister to Gr.1 E.P. Taylor Stakes third Moment In Time out of Gr.3 Matchmaker Stakes victress Horatia.
Congratulations to her owners Steve Parkin of Clipper Logistics, Joe Foley who selected her as a yearling and to her breeders Patrick & Ann Marie Burns of Newlands House Stud.
