Rathasker Graduate Bodhicitta wins Gr.2 Yellow Ribbon
09 Aug 2020
Bodhicitta (Showcasing ex Solfilia) was sold as a Rathasker pinhook at Goffs UK Premier sale. She made her first starts as a pupil of Michael O’Callaghan before being sold for 60,000gns at Tattersalls HIT to Meah Lloyd to race in the US. Last out she placed second in the Gr.1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita. Here Bodhicitta saved ground in fourth passing the stands for the first time here. She raced covered up just behind the leaders in third down the backstretch, tipped out three deep as they straightened and kicked home full of run to get up right on the wire. “The race went about like I thought it would, I didn’t see much speed in the race,” winning trainer Richard Baltas said. “She has more tactical speed than the other horses, like the favoured defending Yellow Ribbon winner Beau Recall. Flavien Prat saved a lot of ground and we needed all of it. When he won with her a while back, he said ‘This is my next Vasilika.’ It means a lot because he’s ridden a lot of good horses. We may go in the Gr.2 John C. Mabee Stakes on September the 5th next. Bodhicitta is out of a Teofilo mare, who produced one foal after the Yellow Ribbon winner – the winning sophomore Littledidyouknow. Bodhicitta is inbred top and bottom to Sorbus, second in the 1978 Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas, Gr.1 Irish Guinness Oaks, Gr.1 Irish St. Leger, and Gr.1 Yorkshire Oaks. Sorbus produced five black-type winners and it’s through two of those Stakes-winning daughters that Bodhicitta is inbred.
